Apple Store - Buchanan Street!

I was there bright and early waititng for the opening, 7.3-am to be exact. There were people who had been there since Friday morning, so before you go slagging me for my early appearance, it was nothing compared to some.
On arrival I was cheered and clapped by the crowd already standing the queue. People cheering and shaking my hand as I joined the queue…quite an odd but very warm reception. I was shortly joined by Gary who waited with me and you can see the photos he took here
We had a nice countdown to the opening and then more cheering and clapping :-) Here are some pictures that I took.

Charity Abseil again!

Hey guys (and gals!)

Some of you might remember last year I did a charity abseil at Glasgow Uni down that rather tall bell tower. If you don’t remember then here’s a photo to prove!

I’m doing it again this year (In October) and I need you’re support! I’m starting my fundraising early so that I can raise as much as possible. So if you can please sponsor me! You can do this quick and easy online at this website My JustGiving Fundraising page

You’re all more than welcome to come and watch too!

How Much Would You Pay For?

A handknitted scarf?
Someone to finish off a cross stitch UFO for you?

I’m looking to make some extra cash on top of my 8-5 job. I’d prefer to keep it crafty :-)
Let me know of any ideas you all might have and also how much you think would be reasonable to charge such such a service.

What Do I Do Next?

Big life question eh?

I’m not the kind of person who likes change. I like things to stay the way they are because it’s safe and comfortable. I like the grass well and truely grown beneath my feet, but for some unfathomable reason it’s now beginning to itch.
My problem: I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I’ve made a total failure of university, and I am in a job I cannot progress in and I am far too much of a chicken to physically move to somewhere that would give me opportunities.
I’m stuck and I hate it.

Supar! Ching!

Got the back issues of the Simply Knitting magazines that I ordered a couple of weeks ago so I’ve got lots of projects on my ‘to do’ list now :-)
Still reading Harry Potter, on book 4, just over halfway through.
Must post mary jane slipper picture and get knitting on that pink and white scarf again.
Meeko has been a bit bonkers these past few days so it’s not really allowed me to have time to do much knitting and he seems to hate it when I read magazines because he’s forever attacking them when I’m trying to read them and still trying after I put them down.
He’s really getting into the whole climbing thing too, loves to be up high.
Today I did something that I was really proud of myself for, but I’m not telling you what it is ;-)

10 Little Speckled Frogs

Sat on a speckled log eating some most delicious grub. yum yum.

I learned that little song at the weekend. Quite a catchy tune too :-)

I finished one of my Mary Jane Slippers. It turned out alright. Ok it was a bit odd looking to be honest, but for a first attempt at increases and things I was very pleased. I find it hard to be put down by the fact that it didn’t turn out perfect. The fact that it turn out at all was good enough for me :-) I don’t think I’ll bother making the other one as the first one wasn’t really good for wearing. hehe.
Remind me to post a picture for you later :-)

Organised…Kind Of.

I made a list of all the projects that are either WIPs or not yet started so I can see exactly how much is going on. I love organising things, it’s a great sense of control.

I’ve finished the top part of the Mary Jane slippers, and I’ve done the strap. I’m working on the sole now. I’m having to adjust the measurements because the pattern is for size 9 feet and I have smaller feet than that. So we shall see how it turns out when I’ve finished the sole and I get to put it all together, if it works out good then I’ll have to pray that it wasn’t a fluke because I’ll have to make one for the other foot :-)

On the cross stitch side I’ve got a small cover kit of the go, lots of lilacs and purples. While I was sorting out all my stash I came across the Jungle Height Chart that I started *years* ago, some may remember the progress pictures from back then. Anyway I can’t find the floss anywhere. I had them on the DMC floss holders in the plastic wallets. I kept them seperate from my collection of yarn but I guess I’ve put them all together since I wasn’t working on that project.

Time To Organise

So I started to make a pair of Mary Jane slippers yesterday. I didn’t have the correct size of needle or yarn of the righ guage either but regardless of whether they fit me or not, there are lots of new things to learn and shaping to try out which is why I am doing them.
It’s very fun to do something other than scarves, though I daresay I’ll enjoy making them in the winter.

The needles I bought from ebay a few days ago arrived today. Got my first ever circular and DPNs :-) Some of them are quite random and only 1 rather than a pair, but there were loads and for £4 it was a great bargain. Some of them look very old and don’t have the size on them, but I can put little stickers on them once I check them out later.

Days 8 and 9

Aaah the final two days of my holiday. These two days flew in and yet nothing much to report. Was a rather lazy 2 days, moreso than the other 7 days of my holiday.

I am back in work now and it’s nice to be back.
I got a little bit more knitting done, getting used to the colour changes. I’m leaving the weaving of all the lose ends to the end of the scarf. I fear messing it up and if I wait until I’m finished then I know I will be more careful.

I saw a lovely pattern for a sweater in a mazagine which I’d love to do but the yarn is very new and it’s hard enough to get yarn in the UK never mind this flashy new stuff. Oh KnitPicks why can’t you deliver outside the US. Well I know why because you say so on your site, but still! Get it sorted.

Day 7

Not much done today at all, played some Harry Potter and a little bit of knitting. I managed to change from one colour to another without a hiccup which was good.
Bought a random lot of needles from Ebay, it’s a stack of loads, some DPNs and even a circ in there too so I’m pretty pleased that I got so much for such a small price.
Now I’ve just got to save my pennies for the yarn :-)

Day 6

Tonight is going to be a knitting night. The yarn that I am currently using I don’t like very much, I’m not sure if it indeed eyelash yarn or not, but it’s very similar, but for some reason I find the yarn makes my hands feel sticky. Maybe its the specific material used to make it I do not know, it’s Patons Whisper if that means anything to anyone.

I do however have 2 balls lovely larn (Wendy, Velvet Flake) in White and Raspberry Flake colours that I will use to start a new scarf, and this is where I get to practice my technique of switching between one coour and another, having never done that before it’ll be interesting. :-) These require size 10 1/2 needles btu I only hav size 10 since i’m just starting out, but I hope these will still be ok to use.

Went to the gym earlier, had a nice run, sauna and a swin, feeling quite good now.

Day 5

Playing games for a living must be hard work for a guy. Sleeping and eating must be hard work for a cat.

I played more Harry Potter today and I managed to finish the game :-) I’ve still got lots of discovering of Hogwarts to do but I’ve completed the main storyline. What I like about the game is the ability to free-roam even after you finish the story. I Managed to complete the story and still only have 63% of the game done!

Haven’t done anything crafty today at all, but I’m not so bothered. I can’t make much progress on knitting without DPNs or circs so until I get them I’m in a bit of a stalemate. Got plenty of reading to do though :-)
