I’ve Got A Diploma

Some of you may know that I didn’t finish University. I left during my third year resit exams since I had screwed up the first exam there was no point in my taking the test. So I left with nothing, no qualifications, zip, zilch.

Over a year on Chris mentions that I *should* have been given some sort of something for having done first and second year successfully. I’ve always beaten myself up badly about the fact that I spent 5 years at uni to do a 3 year course and still come out with nothing. Out of vague curiosity I emailed the uni and enquired about it and it turns out that I should have been sent something.

I am now the proud owner of a Diploma in Higher Education for General Science. I have a diploma. I have a diploma. Why no one thought to tell me this earlier I have no idea.

I finished getting all the achievements for Harry Potter on the 360, so now I’m playing Overlord. It’s very fun having minions to control :-)

I aquired some rather colourful snowflake yarn that I’m adding onto the scarf I was making with the white and pink snowflake yarn, so it’s going to be a little more colouful than was originally planned. I knitting up a small mouse and stuffed it with some left over yarn and some cat crunchie biscuits and Meeko loves it.

The Thomas Kincade cross stitch that I had started has been put away yet again. I am just not happy with it, there is something not right with it. Instead I have opted for the Country Companions Grandfather Clock design which was given to me by Chris’ mum. Took me long enough to sort the threads :-)

How Much Would You Pay For?

A handknitted scarf?
Someone to finish off a cross stitch UFO for you?

I’m looking to make some extra cash on top of my 8-5 job. I’d prefer to keep it crafty :-)
Let me know of any ideas you all might have and also how much you think would be reasonable to charge such such a service.

Supar! Ching!

Got the back issues of the Simply Knitting magazines that I ordered a couple of weeks ago so I’ve got lots of projects on my ‘to do’ list now :-)
Still reading Harry Potter, on book 4, just over halfway through.
Must post mary jane slipper picture and get knitting on that pink and white scarf again.
Meeko has been a bit bonkers these past few days so it’s not really allowed me to have time to do much knitting and he seems to hate it when I read magazines because he’s forever attacking them when I’m trying to read them and still trying after I put them down.
He’s really getting into the whole climbing thing too, loves to be up high.
Today I did something that I was really proud of myself for, but I’m not telling you what it is ;-)

10 Little Speckled Frogs

Sat on a speckled log eating some most delicious grub. yum yum.

I learned that little song at the weekend. Quite a catchy tune too :-)

I finished one of my Mary Jane Slippers. It turned out alright. Ok it was a bit odd looking to be honest, but for a first attempt at increases and things I was very pleased. I find it hard to be put down by the fact that it didn’t turn out perfect. The fact that it turn out at all was good enough for me :-) I don’t think I’ll bother making the other one as the first one wasn’t really good for wearing. hehe.
Remind me to post a picture for you later :-)

Organised…Kind Of.

I made a list of all the projects that are either WIPs or not yet started so I can see exactly how much is going on. I love organising things, it’s a great sense of control.

I’ve finished the top part of the Mary Jane slippers, and I’ve done the strap. I’m working on the sole now. I’m having to adjust the measurements because the pattern is for size 9 feet and I have smaller feet than that. So we shall see how it turns out when I’ve finished the sole and I get to put it all together, if it works out good then I’ll have to pray that it wasn’t a fluke because I’ll have to make one for the other foot :-)

On the cross stitch side I’ve got a small cover kit of the go, lots of lilacs and purples. While I was sorting out all my stash I came across the Jungle Height Chart that I started *years* ago, some may remember the progress pictures from back then. Anyway I can’t find the floss anywhere. I had them on the DMC floss holders in the plastic wallets. I kept them seperate from my collection of yarn but I guess I’ve put them all together since I wasn’t working on that project.

Days 8 and 9

Aaah the final two days of my holiday. These two days flew in and yet nothing much to report. Was a rather lazy 2 days, moreso than the other 7 days of my holiday.

I am back in work now and it’s nice to be back.
I got a little bit more knitting done, getting used to the colour changes. I’m leaving the weaving of all the lose ends to the end of the scarf. I fear messing it up and if I wait until I’m finished then I know I will be more careful.

I saw a lovely pattern for a sweater in a mazagine which I’d love to do but the yarn is very new and it’s hard enough to get yarn in the UK never mind this flashy new stuff. Oh KnitPicks why can’t you deliver outside the US. Well I know why because you say so on your site, but still! Get it sorted.

Day 7

Not much done today at all, played some Harry Potter and a little bit of knitting. I managed to change from one colour to another without a hiccup which was good.
Bought a random lot of needles from Ebay, it’s a stack of loads, some DPNs and even a circ in there too so I’m pretty pleased that I got so much for such a small price.
Now I’ve just got to save my pennies for the yarn :-)

Day 6

Tonight is going to be a knitting night. The yarn that I am currently using I don’t like very much, I’m not sure if it indeed eyelash yarn or not, but it’s very similar, but for some reason I find the yarn makes my hands feel sticky. Maybe its the specific material used to make it I do not know, it’s Patons Whisper if that means anything to anyone.

I do however have 2 balls lovely larn (Wendy, Velvet Flake) in White and Raspberry Flake colours that I will use to start a new scarf, and this is where I get to practice my technique of switching between one coour and another, having never done that before it’ll be interesting. :-) These require size 10 1/2 needles btu I only hav size 10 since i’m just starting out, but I hope these will still be ok to use.

Went to the gym earlier, had a nice run, sauna and a swin, feeling quite good now.

Day 3

Not a huge amount to report today. Played a bit of World Of Warcraft, started reading a new book The Cold Moon by Jeffery Deaver.
I opted to do a bit of cross stitch today, it was the Oriental Beauty cover kit from the recent issue of Cross Stitcher

After some deliberation I changed my magazing subscription from Cross Stitcher to Simply Knitting, purely because I’m getting fed up of Cross Stitcher, even the new look I was rather unimpressed with and I’m also a bit fed up of the cover kits building up in my basket.
I also think that changing magazine will help spur me on with my knitting and I just love to get things in the post. It’s a strange thing, but just getting something in the mail makes me think someone out thereis thinking of me. Lol how silly.

So that was about it, there wasn’t enough of the stitching done to warrent a photo, maybe I’ll get more done on it today, th magazine says it’s a 12 hour project.

Anyway, tata!

Day 2’s Photos

So daylight is here and here is the photo of me wearing my first knitting success :-)

I know I finished this cushion ages aho but I never got around to putting a picture up, so I thought while I was taking photos I’d throw this one in for you!

Day 2

I didn’t get my scarf finished yesterday and there’s a very good reason for that. A very bit tangled reason if you catch my drift. It seems one of the balls I recreated turned into a gaint knot, probably with the help of the kitten. It took a fair amount of today to untangle it all, but I managed it and I got my scarf finished this evening. Due to it being dark outside and the inside light not really suitable for showing it’s colour I’m going to leave taking a photo until tomorrow and I’ll post it up then.
I’m very happy with the scarf this time as I cast on 30 stitches and at no point did I have any more or less than 30 and the casting off went perfectly this time. lol.

I have another scarf on the go, though the next project in my book is to make a bag, I don’t really have the yarn for it. I did get some more yarn from Chris’ mum today but again it’s more suitable for a scarf, so I’ve got yarn enough for 3 scarves, one of which I’ve already finished, one that I’ve started and one still to be done. The difference with the one I’ve not started is that I have 2 balls of yarn for it and they are different colours so I was hoping to maybe alternate the colours. For that I will need to look into how to join when it’s two different colours as I think it’s slightly different in order to make it look better.

Chris came back from Carluke at about 1130 and suggested we go into town because it was such a nice day, so we did, but 2 minutes before we left the house it started to rain and it was pretty much the same for the entire trip in town. Thankfully it’s only bad weather if you think rain is bad. We still both had a lovely afternoon. Chris treated me to 2 new tops and a pair of earrings and one of those masks you wear when you sleep which says “Grumpy…but Gorgeous” on it. :-)

I haven’t managed to get any reading done yet, I’ll do some tomorrow. Unfortunately I’m going to have to cut this post short as the kitten has just produced a number 2 and I have to go clear it up before the smell knocks me out.

P.S. I installed World Of Warcraft and got a fresh subscription to it. Bad of me I know but hey ;-)

Day 1

So I’m now on holiday from work, mon-fri plus the weekend on either side. 9 whole days :-)
Today is day 1.
Had a nice loooooong lie in, had a yummy pair of rolls and sausage for my breakfast and I’ve been watching some Star Trek Next Generation season 3 while I’ve been knitting away at that scarf that I did a week or so ago before I unravelled it all (think that might be called frogging but I’d need some confirmation on that one).

It’s coming along really well given that I only started it last night, it’s so very nearly finished. I daresay if I stuck at it the way I have done for most of the day I’d get it finished tonight. I’m getting faster at doing my knits and purls but also better. The last time I did that scarf I cast on 30, dropped 2 stitches at some point during my knitting which resulted in rather large holes, but I still managed to end u pwith 34 stitches cast onto the needles. I have no idea how it happened but it’s probably just as well that I messed up the casting off because now I am making a much better scarf.

Chris went back to see his parents this afternoon so it has been just Meeko and I for the rest of this afternoon, he’s been very good and snoozing away on my lap while I’ve been knitting. I’ve just fed him, and am now about to feed myself.

On tonights agenda, well I think I’ll try and get that scarf finished. I’ve got some reading on knitting gauges to do because I know nothing about them, and I might read a little bit more of my Harry Potter book. I do have another book that was given to me by a work friend, Ruth, which I’d like to get read during my holiday too. All the while Meeko will probably be going bonkers around the house and the tv will be on in the background.

On a cute note here is a photo I took of Meeko cuddling up with an anteater which he’d been attacking for about 30 minutes prior :-)

Everything and Nothing

That’s pretty much what I’ve been up to. Knitting here and there, reading The Goblet Of Fire (which I’ve read before but it was so long ago) and watching Prison Break.

I have nothing to really show for the knitting just yet, I’ve just been doing some sample work. I’m still lacking in the confidence to move onto something that doesn’t resemble a scarf. I don’t want to rush things though, I’m taking my time to enjoy it. I attempted to start something yesterday but had to frog it twice so I decided to put it to one side rather than get all mad about it and get in a tangle.

I got a copy of the latest CrossStitcher in the post yesterday. I wasn’t too fussed for any of the designs in there and I have to say I’m a little unimpressed by the “new look” the magazine has taken. It’s not really any different. I’ve been thinking about switching my subscription to Simply Knitting. I by no means want to leave my cross stitch behind though, but it’s nice to have two crafty hobbies. I have often been fed up with cross stitching all the time and wished I could do something else crafty to occupy my time.

I’m quite a person to indulge in my current fad, but I don’t see that as a bad thing. Why shouldn’t I? I should listen to my dark side. ;-)

Oh, What To Listen To?

I’m bored of the CDs I have in work. I’m sick of listening to the same stuff. I think at lunchtime I’m going to take my CD wallet home and have a good switch about of music.

I’ve managed to get back into my stitching and have 2 finished kits to show you pictures of which I will do later. One of them is a Humphrey’s Corner design which I framed and gave to Chris’ mum for her birthday, the other was the Winnie The Pooh ‘Group Hug’ cushion which I started so long ago but put away because I was so sick of the sight of that gold colour that you stitch Pooh in. He’s a big character and it’s a lot of gold. It can get very boring and demoralising stitching the same colour over a vast area. But when I moved into the new flat (Oh I moved house btw ;-P ) I unpacked all my stitching stuff properly and decided to give it another bash. Once I had gotten the gold out of the way it was pretty plain sailing. The hardest bit was sewing the cord to the surround of the cushion, and the whole ‘making it into a cushion’ was quite time consuming as I don’t have a sewing machine anymore. Me thinks it’s time to invest in a new one.

So they are both all finished now and it felt good to actually have finished something. I have done a few small cover kit type things from magazines too, just to get me back into the habit. I’ve now started on my Thomas Kinkade ‘Stillwater Bridge’.
It’s the first kit that I’ve had that has the design printed onto the fabric, but in all honesty, it doesn’t help with the stitching. In fact trying to follow the chart and the fabric is quite hard.

So I will upload pictures later and blog them.

Chris and I moved in together. It’s a gorgeous flat, 2 bedroom, master en-suite. We’ve got our gorgeous kitten, Meeko. I will also put a picture of him up too. He was so tiny when we got him, and now after only 3 weeks he’s looking all grown up. He’s got bags of energy and has given Chris and I a fair few good laughs with his daft behaviour.

It was my nephew Cameron’s birthday recently, so I hope he liked his presents and his visit to his grandparents. Happy birthday kid!

The migraines are still keeping themselves at bay. The feverfew has worked wonders and I’ve even managed to drop to 1 dose of 20 drops a day rather than 2 doses, and even then, I am forgetting to take it everyday so I will sometimes miss a day, but my brain hasn’t had a hissy fit about it.
